Water Keepers Summer Report (Oct 23)

Our Water Keeper’s have feedback that their contact with club members has been very much positive.

We have been able to pass on members views to the committee regularly.

Where waters are private there has been little angling related litter. Where there is public access there is, of course, more litter to collect.

Water Keepers have reported to the EA & Wealden Council fly tipping at Iron Bridge. This has been a van or truck pulling up at the bridge and unloading trade, domestic & garden waste straight into the Waller’s.

We have removed what we can, including household items, bags of rotting meat & today a fridge.

Please call in any activity that might help the fly tippers to be identified.

Water Keepers have also called in a gill net on The Cuckmere, which the EA then dealt with. At the same time a group of men who had driven on to fields adjacent to the river were approached & asked to leave, which they did.

Water Keepers have regularly helped water share club members locate the correct lengths of waters they are able to fish.

We have also asked people without club memberships to leave at Boreham Street, Iron Bridge, Middle Bridge & Hydneye Lake.

In one such instance, following co-ordinated overnight activity between Water Keepers, the matter now lies with the police’s Rural Crime Team. Updates to follow.

Water Keepers are regularly testing at Boreham Street & Pevensey Haven as part of The Angling Trust’s Water Quality Monitoring Network .

See you on the banks.
